What is it about?

People with depression often suffer from not being able to enjoy activity that used to be enjoyable in the past. We examined if it influence the use of and the effect of coping through leisure activities. We found that people who have trouble enjoying activities did not use coping through leisure, and did not experience much effect from coping through leisure, compared to people who had less trouble enjoying activities.

Why is it important?

Doing leisure activities is believed to help people with depression. However, this study suggests that is not always the case - some are not willing to do it, and others do not get benefit from doing leisure activities. Identifying and addressing the ability to enjoy activities are important for successful treatment through leisure activities.
