Why is it important?

This is the first published example of adopting CanMEDS competency framework in a dental specialty program. The success of developing SBRD curriculum has encouraged other dental specialties toward adopting CanMEDS 2015 frameworks for their own curricula.

Perspectives

In this first published report of adopting CanMEDS competencies in a dental post-graduate programme we hope to share the process of developing the curriculum, the lessons learned, and several unique features that would be of high interest among various health profession educators. The developmental process, although was challenging and complex, illustrates how scientific approach to curriculum development can lead to very fruitful and satisfying outcomes. Success of this curriculum development has led to many other dental programmes working on competency-based education based on CanMEDS principles
