What is it about?

The aim of this research was to establish cognitive changes in relation to blood lactate levels obtained during slow performance of a regimen of exercise sessions. We conclude that bodybuilding fitness regimens lead to an increase in basal lactate levels to 3.16 mmol/L and that acute training sessions can improve attentional performance in relation to lactacidemia, suggesting pro-cognitive effects of a workout.

Why is it important?

Being attentive and ready during sports performance and competitions is the key factor to achieving excellence. Therefore, attentional skills are essential in all sports disciplines

Perspectives

An interesting outcome needing further research regards the basal values found in bodybuilders. Further studies are needed to evaluate the possible consequences on the cognitive sphere of a high and prolonged blood lactate level.
