What is it about?

Elevated levels of analytes connected to immunological diseases, c-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-8 (IL-8), is associated with shorter time of survival. Investigated individuals were 167 frail elderly >79 years, living in nursing homes.

Why is it important?

Measurement of the laboratory analyte CRP in blood is not complicated nor expensive. That can be a useful tool for early detection of inflammatory processes in individuals living in buring homes.

Perspectives

To increase the knowledge that can improve the care of frail elderly is urgent and I hope that this knowledge gets disseminated.
