What is it about?

In this work, we have developed a practical alternative synthetic method for preparing 4-aminocoumarin using 2-oxo-2H-1-benzopyran-4-yl methanesulfonate as a precursor. The reaction is done simply, via nucleophilic substitution with methanolic ammonia. This new method offers the considerable advantage of operating at lower temperatures compared to the thermal fusion reaction and achieves yields as high as 95%. By making the title compound more easily available, it is our hope that the new method will foster further research into the chemistry and biology of 4-aminocoumarin derivatives.
