What is it about?

This study was designed to confirm the exploratory PAMS (profile analysis via multidimensional scaling) results in terms of structural equation modeling (SEM).

Why is it important?

The study was the first one to demonstrate how the exploratory PAMS results could be confirmed with the structural equation modeling.

Perspectives

Initially the PAMS results were initially tried to be confirmed with the bi-factor model which assumes orthogonal among group factors. However, when we fitted the results with the bi-factor model, the fit was poor. However, when we allowed correlations between group factors in the bi-factor model, the fit was substantially improved and became good. Hence, when one conducts a confirmatory PAMS in terms of bi-factor modeling, we recommend to correlate group factors in the model.
