What is it about?

Textured insoles have been shown to improve balance. This has the potential to reduce injury risk or increase performance (e.g. sports performance). This study used the brain imaging technique of electroencephalography (or EEG for short) to measure possible changes in brain activity whilst wearing textured insoles.

Why is it important?

When producing a new intervention we have to be sure that the effects are not a placebo. In that the observed changes in balance are caused by the insoles. This means we can suggest its usage with confidence that it is having the desired effect, making it a worthwhile intervention.

Perspectives

This article helps to identify a possible reason for why changes in balance occur when using textured insoles. It was challenging and a great pleasure to research the area. I hope that it can contribute to making textured insole usage valid across an array of individuals and settings.
