What is it about?

Accelerated deterioration tests under high temperature and high humidity, recovery tests by drying after water absorption, xenon exposure weatherability tests, and salt watermist resistance tests were conducted to obtain relationships between strength retention rate and exposure time.

Why is it important?

The lack of knowledge about the long-term reliability of adhesive joints is an obstacle to its practical use. Especially, there are no studies in the literature on the millimeter-order thickness of the adhesive layer. Therefore, the experimental proof and validation are required for deciding the appropriate design reference strength.

Perspectives

My specialty is a fatigue design of the welding joints. In the field of the structural adhesive, the situation that studies on long-term durability evaluation were not enough was unexpected. I hope that practical use is promoted by this article.
