What is it about?

We define the stratigraphic architecture of the Mexican foreland basin, which represents the southern continuation of the late Mesozoic Cordilleran foreland basin. In this work, we identify the potential sediment sources that filled the foreland basin and recognize sediment-dispersal systems.

Why is it important?

This paper document the sedimentary fill of the Mexican foreland basin and link Late Cretaceous sedimentation to magmatic events in the Mexican Cordilleran arc. The study fills in a relative data gap in the North American Cordilleran arc and foreland basin system, which is extensively studied in the United States, but far less so in Mexico.
