What is it about?
Anxiety is increasing in adolescents regardless of geographical locations, however rural students face additional stressors. Anxiety in rural secondary school students is influential in academics outcomes due to numerous factors inclusive of location, financial constraints, access to service providers and potential future relocation to study and employment.

Why is it important?
With mental health issues on the rise in adolescents it is crucial that we investigate ways in which to reduce the impact and provide support.This article reviews current literature and emphasize the need for further research.
Perspectives
Researching and writing this article was a rewarding opportunity. I am employed in mental health with rural adolescents and therefore was able to link the research with my current role. This enabled me to review some of my professional informed practice to the work I undertake with students, their families, educators and the communities as a whole.
