What is it about?
This article presents the discovery of a pre-Hispanic archaeological object from Ecuador in the collection of René-Just Haüy. It was send around 1760 to France by Joseph de Jussieu to his brothers and later give to Haüy by his nephews, Antoine-Laurent or Laurent-Pierre de Jussieu.

Why is it important?
It was thought that all the objects collected by Joseph de Jussieu during his long stay in South America (1735-1771) had been lost. This discovery proves the contrary.
