What is it about?

Utilizing an intersectional analysis and drawing on a databse of immigration raids targeting immigrant communities during the height of the war on terror, this study dissects three distinct manifestations of race and gender: (1) the proliferation of Latina immigrants apprehended and placed in detention; (2) the passage of gendered legislation facilitating the raids; and (3) the invocation of race and gendered discourse within the federal government to justify and defend the raids. The analysis lays bare the complex constraints born by immigrants particularly significant for efforts to construct humane, democratic and just reforms for the future while providing a rich methodological discussion of research possibilities for Political Science and immigration studies.
