What is it about?

While it is well known that the gut microbiome influences colorectal cancer, how the host's genetics dictate this relationship remains unclear. This study demonstrates that a specific genetic variant in the intestinal transporter SLC22A4 (OCTN1) promotes colorectal cancer, directly supporting the presence and survival of a tumor-promoting bacterium, creating an environment that favors the progression of colorectal cancer.
