What is it about?

Economic terms are difficult to understand. Yet we can approach them through more common images: Economy is a Human, Economy is an Animal, Economy is a Maschine. That is where metaphor is born. Each language has a different set of such images. Considering those gives a clue to cultural pecularities and national stereotypes.

Why is it important?

We try to identify the mechanisms of metaphor creation, being, on the one hand, universal, and on the other hand,- culturally determined. They encode common images and complicated economic realia, which have various associative links in different languagesvand thus form the specific nationally shaped economic model.

I hope the paper will be of some interest to those, who want to deeper understand the principles of language function in rendering cultural differences in reference to such complicated area as economics. It is of vital importance since all our wellbeing strongly depends on knowing the economic grounds.
