What is it about?

Syllabi are rich data sources. Using an anti-racist framework as a construct of cultural competence, this study examines the language in course syllabi of graduate social work programs. Findings suggest the need to integrate more anti-racist language in course syllabi.

Why is it important?

As an ethical and professional standard in social work education and practice, cultural competence must go beyond educating social work students about White privilege to promoting cultural consciousness and anti-racism. Using more anti-racist language in course syllabi is a critical first step.

Perspectives

Writing this article with my co-author, whom I have a long standing collaborations, has been a great pleasure. The article also can lead to more discussions about to center populations of people who have historically been marginalized in social work education.
