What is it about?

China has consolidated its position in the world as the world's second largest economy. An impressive feat, as four decades ago China was one of the #poorest economies prior to its economic reforms. This paper provides a critical review on the reforms examining the history of its reforms and implications for future economic growth.

Why is it important?

Firstly, understanding China's past economic growth allows us to identify issues that can help policymakers implement future policies. Secondly, it provides a timely literature review that synthesises recent literature that can provide directions for future academic research

Perspectives

I enjoyed learning about China's history as it has really achieved an impressive feat. It is truly the asian miracle indeed. However, recent issues (even pre-covid) has already concerned many, as China has focused its growth on the exports demand side which may cause its growth to slow down unless it refocuses on its domestic economy.
