What role do team dynamics play for individual sport athletes?

What is it about?

It is often assumed that individual sport athletes are 'on their own' as they compete, and that team dynamics play a relatively small role in these athletes' experiences and performance. This research looked past this assumption, and revealed how elite sport athletes perceived their teammates had influenced their sport experiences.

Why is it important?

Perhaps the most unique aspect of this study was that elite athletes from a range of sport contexts all identified the powerful influences of their teammates, and how positive group environments were essential to realize the most beneficial outcomes.
