What is it about?
The wettability, water absorption and swelling of excipients played important roles in the tablet disintegration. Hence, these parameters were evaluated systematically for the first time through various methods in our studies. All these methods could be applied in the preformulation studies. Besides, The results revealed that the disintegration of tablets did relate to these parameters, especially wetting rate and initial water absorption rate.

Why is it important?
The tablet disintegration could be predicted through determining the wetting rate or initial water absorption rate of excipients, which was quick and easy.
Perspectives
We hope this article could arouse the attention of pharmaceutical workers to study the fundmental property of excipients. Because it will contribute to the design of new excipient and prescription screening.
