Why is it important?
The internet does not only help freedom of speech, it can help repressive governments too. It is important to understand how these dynamics work in different political contexts. The Malaysian government has repeatedly tried to influence online coverage through covert and overt means.
Perspectives
I wrote this article because I was interested in how a group of bloggers turned out to be motivated by bringing down a faction of the governing party. When they succeeded, the links between state actors and apparent oppositional voices became clearer.
