What is it about?
Specific insulin receptors were identified on nerve endings in the circum-ventricular organs (CVOs). The capillaries perfusing CVOs are fenestrated allowing access for circulating peptides viz. insulin, leptin etc.

Why is it important?
Describes a key mechanism by which circulating insulin and other peptides communicate with the CNS to alter behavior and function.
Perspectives
Provides the structural basis by which peptide hormones influence brain function and hence outputs.
