What can we learn from changes in the way that translation and intercultural communication is theorised and understood? Examples from international development show the importance of focusing on language and culture in development projects.

Why is it important?
We provide evidence to show that language and culture are often treated as invisible in international development projects and processes, but in the field and in communications across countries, HQ and local offices.
Perspectives
A language and culture focus brings about a need for a greater attention to the processes of meaning-making, and in an age when many international development project have been seen to fail, our work offers new possibilities for re-thinking development work.
