What is it about?
Using every element on the page (text, images, doodles, etc) the article considers whether it is possible to discern how a medieval reader may have reacted to hearing/reading the text. It is based on a study of a short story in the Old French blockbuster, the "Vie des Peres ".

Why is it important?
It is important because the text itself is at the confluence of traditions (comic, pious) and therefore difficult to Pigeonhole. Using an unusual technique may teach us a great deal about a medieval reaction to a medieval text.
Perspectives
This article builds on my previous work and lays the foundation for significant future research. It stems from a conference paper that was received with more interest and follow ups than any other. I continue to this line of research to this day and consider this article my starting place.
