What is it about?
Signs in alphabets can be viewed in two ways: as their visual appearances once written or as the physical movements with the writing instrument that produce the sign. The latter point of view is crucial when explaining how the signs change over time. There are different tendencies operating here: facilitation in writing, clarity, the need to differentiate signs from each other.
