What is it about?
This is a study of the changing name-giving practice at the time of Bede, showing that the change of names from "Geuissae" to West Saxons, as recorded by Bede, reflected the fundamental transformation of the West Saxon ruling dynasty from a cognatic kin group to a group of rulers over land and people.
