What is it about?

Operationalization of topos of history as an initiator strategy of negative other presentation is problematized with an example from Turkish politics. This paper is also an answer to the question of what discursive challenges political opposition parties face that once ruled as state-parties.

Why is it important?

History re-conceptualized as an 'institutional ad hominem' diminishes the critical capacity of political opposition parties and the space of deliberation concerning the on-going policy making shrinks as a result. This result is crucial for developing an alternative critical position towards the notion of democratic politics.

Perspectives
