Codification and prescription in linguistic standardisation

What is it about?

In this paper I aim to challenge some of the myths surrounding the codification and prescription of French. I argue that that a comparative perspective enables us better to identify and therefore dispel certain myths both about the process of standardisation in general and about the standardisation histories of particular languages.
