What is it about?

Mahr is the required gift from the groom to the bride in an Islamic wedding. This word is very hard to translate into Polish. People often mistake it for Polish dowry or dower (posag or wiano), but mahr is different - it is the bride’s personal money from the groom; there is no equivalent word in Polish. It is concluded that it is best to keep the original word, and explain it clearly to protect the legal, cultural and social meaning of words such as mahr.
