Perspectives

Second language learners' motivation has been investigated for decades by a number of researchers in applied linguistics. This study is based on the author's intuition about the relationship between learners' cultural/linguistic backgrounds and that of target language. The study attempted to find a possible cause of continuation or discontinuation in language learning based on the learners' perceptions of target language and culture, which seem to be influenced by their own cultural backgrounds.
