What is it about?

This study applies linguistic landscape analysis tools to explore multilingual ideologies reflected in two Sydney universities' campuses. The results show a continuous monolingual mindset in signage, despite attempts to incorporate messages in languages other than English in the public domain.

Why is it important?

This research can raise awareness about multilingualism and how it can be enacted in university campuses. It can also inform university authorities about how English-only mindsets play against Australian universities' discourse in favor of diversity and multiculturalism.

Perspectives

This work aims to challenge Sydney universities' advocacy for multiculturalism by showing how the linguistic landscape of their campuses reflect a predominant English-only mindset.
