What is it about?
This study looked at the way Japanese English language learners self-initiate second language (L2) interaction by using available interactional resources such as their first language (L1). Although the use of first language in L2 interaction has been viewed both in negative and positive light, this study explored the positive use of L1 to facilitates L2 interaction as its use can be a powerful and effective tool to make the communication accessible in collaborative interaction.
