What is it about?
We have investigated whether the amount of vocabulary an individual has acquired in a foreign language poses an effect on the accurate perceptions of sounds which are in the foreign language but not in their first one. We have dealt specifically with Brazilian learners of English who have Brazilian Portuguese as their first language.

Why is it important?
There is little research on the effect of vocabulary size on L2 speech perception on foreign language learning setting, this information in important both for the better understanding of bilingual cognitive processes and scholars and teachers to make informed decisions on language teaching.
Perspectives
We have identified a potential facilitatory effect of vocabulary size on the perception of L2-exclusive sounds.
