What is it about?

A PEDOT coated carbon fibre cathode allows efficient electroreduction of air to H2O2, which is subsequently electroreduced on a stainless-steel-mesh cathode to produce hydroxyl radicals. The process is free from any added chemical reagent and produces no secondary pollution. It uses low-cost commercially available materials and is also low in operation cost, i.e., energy consumption. The hydroxyl radicals can be used to degrade organic dyes, as well as more recalcitrant organic pollutants.

Why is it important?

This process allows on-demand generation of H2O2 and hydroxyl radicals from only air and electricity.
