What is it about?

The Standard Genetic Code (SGC) is common to all known Earth creatures, suggesting a common origin for protein synthesis in every known organism. The ancient events leading to this near-universal biological characteristic are of broad scientific importance. This text presents a novel, detailed, data-based pathway for formation of an SGC, as well as a new method for evaluating origin pathways. Significantly, the SGC can evolve using only well-known chemical, physical and biological means.

Why is it important?

The Standard Genetic Code (SGC) contains extensive evidence of one of the oldest and most significant events of Earth Biology. As such, it presents a rare text about the dawn of life. To understand the SGC is to decode an ancient message from a lost planet's first creatures.

Perspectives

This work suggests that one need not only speculate about ancient events; a most probable path for ancient evolution can be calculated by identifying a more probable, rapid path to a complex biological ability.
