What is it about?
A new study by Hatice Zora, Peter Hagoort and Asli Ozyurek shows that gestures can make the grammatical processing of negation easier. Using EEG, the researchers found that gestures provide an early cue to negation in Turkish, where the negation morpheme comes after the verb - rather than before. The study offers the first neurocognitive evidence that grammar in spoken language is not processed through speech alone.
