What is it about?
SARS-CoV-2 uses the receptor ACE2 and the host protease TMPRSS2 to invade cells. Researchers who understood this principle were the first to publish this isolation method very early in the epidemic.

Why is it important?
VeroE6/TMPRSS2 cells are very sensitive to SARS-CoV-2 and are very useful for the study of SARS-CoV-2. The cells have been deposited by the researchers in a public cell bank and are now available from the JCRB cell bank, which has provided them to over hundreds of laboratories worldwide.
