What is it about?

Openings in the shear zone lead to a sharp decrease in the shear strength of concrete beams, but due to engineering necessity, they must be added. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthened this zone. In this research, we discuss one of the important strengthened methods.

Why is it important?

Due to the presence of openings in the shear area, a sudden change in the moment of inertia of the section occurs, and thus a clear decrease in the section’s resistance to loads. Therefore, in order to maintain the integrity of the structure, the openings must be reinforced. The reinforcement method used in this research is one of the best reinforcement methods due to its ease of operation and the availability of its materials in the markets.

Perspectives

This research was interesting and important as it dealt with small, medium and large circular openings and the amount of preservation of shear resistance was noted when adding openings and compared with the control sample. Also, the reinforced samples were studied and the results were very good with regard to increasing the shear stress tolerance, controlling the direction of cracks and the method of redistributing stresses.
