What is it about?

This study examines how different types of Indonesian consumers accept halal supply chain practices. The halal food industry has evolved beyond just ensuring halal ingredients—consumers now expect the entire supply chain to follow halal standards. Using a statistical approach called PLS-SEM, the research categorizes consumers into different types, such as trendsetters, price-conscious buyers, and value-driven shoppers, to understand their varying levels of acceptance. The findings suggest that consumer preferences influence how halal supply chains are perceived, highlighting the importance of targeted strategies for businesses and policymakers in the halal food industry.

Why is it important?

The halal food industry is expanding rapidly, yet understanding consumer acceptance of halal supply chains remains limited. This study provides a unique perspective by identifying different types of halal consumers and analyzing how they perceive halal supply chain practices. With Indonesia being the world’s largest halal food consumer market, these insights are crucial for businesses, policymakers, and halal certification bodies. By bridging the gap between consumer behavior and supply chain integrity, this research helps strengthen halal industry practices, ensuring compliance, trust, and competitiveness in the global market.

Perspectives

The increasing demand for halal food products goes beyond ingredients—consumers now expect transparency throughout the entire supply chain. This study was driven by a personal interest in understanding how different consumer types shape the future of halal food standards. The findings emphasize that not all consumers evaluate halal supply chains the same way, highlighting the need for customized strategies in marketing, policy-making, and certification processes. This research contributes to a broader effort to strengthen consumer trust in halal industries and ensure that halal supply chains meet evolving consumer expectations.
