What is it about?
Coastal floods on the north coast of Java are analyzed from astronomical constituents. The tidal constituents of the moon and sun are clearly visible in the maximum tide variations. Moon phases and lunar declination as well as lunar perigee influence maximum tides. Also, the declination of the sun influences the annual maximum tide. There is no indication of nodal 18,6 years effect.

Why is it important?
Coastal floods need to be anticipated based on predictable causes. Astronomical factors are easy to predict, so it is necessary to know exactly which constituents of the sun and moon influence maximum tides. There have been identified monthly and annual causes of coastal flood.
Perspectives
As an astronomer, I want to contribute to "Astronomy for society". Analysis of the causes of coastal floods from an astronomical perspective is very interesting and useful for society.
