What is it about?

Product Life cycle Management (PLM) is a business strategy that integrates data, processes, human resources, and business systems across the product life cycle, particularly in the context of IoT-enabled products, to improve control and analysis in the manufacturing industry.

Why is it important?

We noted that product life cycle management (PLM) is an information management system that enables collaborative development, administration, distribution, and use of product definition information throughout a firm. It connects product and people information and is a strategy for better managing product development from start to finish. Implementing a PLM system requires customizing and integrating the software, and considering factors such as the gap between PLM and IoT products. PLM software allows for efficient management of product information across the entire lifespan of a product. Visualization of the PLM model is important for storing and monitoring real-time data. The integration of PLM and IoT involves storing data in PLM, generating a user interface for thingworx, and creating line charts. NOSQL databases are suitable for collecting real-time data. The data from kepware software is sent to Thingworx for display, and certain data fields are stored in PLM for future reference. Permissions in ARAS innovator control access to items. It is important to consider factors when implementing PLM, and real-time data from IoT products can be brought into PLM using a c# program. The data in PLM can be linked with ERP data to show details about rejected products.

Perspectives

As the author of this article, I aim to shed light on the significance of Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) as a comprehensive information management system for fostering collaborative development, administration, distribution, and utilization of product definition information within an extended firm. In essence, PLM serves as an innovative approach to enhance the handling of product development and service activities throughout the entire product life cycle.
