What is it about?

This article addresses issues involving integration of water-taxi and other public transportation modes in an urban area. Waterway is a well-recognized sustainable transportation mode. Currently, the Hatirjheel water taxi (WT) in Dhaka city provides services through its four designated stations namely “Moghbazar /FDC”, “Rampura”, Gulshan Badda Link Road (GBLR)” and “Gulshan Police Plaza Shopping Mall (GPPSM)”. Hatirjheel area is also served by Hatirjheel Paribahan (HP), a unidirectional circulatory bus system, through its eight designated stops. The purpose of the study is to observe its service characteristics, identify potential strengths and weaknesses of the service, and explore the potential for future undertaking on the integration of WT with the city/local bus systems.
