What is it about?
Well focused negative ion beams are required for fusion plasma heating. Negative ion beams are usually observed with asymmetries in both real space and phase space. It has been thought that those asymmetric structures can affect beam divergences. This work has confirmed that a negative ion beam is made by multi-components having individual transverse velocity distributions.

Why is it important?
The abundance ratio of multi-components has been quantified for the first time based on a full picture of their velocity distributions. The abundance ratio will be a key parameter to identify the origins of multi-components.
