What is it about?
Many devices (as lasers or transistors) rely on exciting electrons to the unoccupied states of a material. The inverse photoemission technique allows to study those states in depth. We present here for the first time a device allowing to explore them without any restriction on the spin orientation.

Why is it important?
In new generation electronics based on spin (spintronics) it is crucial to study the unoccupied electronic states with spin resolution, so it is necessary a comprehensive analysis of the spin orientation in those states.
