What is it about?

As most iron ores today are base ores, modern sinter plants produce sinter from the blends with high share of fine iron ore concentrates which are the products of beneficiation. Using modern sintering techniques such as higher-bed sintering, separated granulation, and other methods further favors production of the sinter having specific properties. Finding the rational way of using such a sinter in the blast furnace is the main goal of this work.

Why is it important?

Actually, the blast furnace process is still alive and thriving despite all the efforts of scientists and engineers to replace it by new coke-free technologies. So organizing smooth blast furnace smelting is an actual challenge.

Perspectives

Personally, I think that any new additional information about the properties of high-quality sinter and its behaviour when it is reduced in blend with other burden components help to better control the course of the blast furnace process.
