What is it about?

The particle settling of PMMA suspension in centrifugal fields is studied by simulation and experiments in terms of its particles volume fraction to observe the characteristic of particle settling. In the simulation study, we used multiphysics software. In the experiments study, a real-scale decanter centrifuge which is attached by a wireless electrical resistance detector (WERD) is used for measuring the experimental particle volume fraction.

Why is it important?

The significance of our study is to compare the characteristics of particle volume fraction by both studies, simulation, and experiments, respectively. The main experimental particle volume fraction by a wireless electrical resistance detector (WERD) attached to the decanter centrifuge needs to be evaluated since it is impossible to observe the fluid dynamics inside the decanter centrifuge. In this study, a 2D model is proposed to simplify the observations which gave a good agreement to the experimental study in particular aspects.

Perspectives

I do hope this article gives a good contribution in the point of view of particle-liquid separation in centrifugal fields, particularly, to broadening the knowledge of decanter centrifuge study.
