What is it about?
The transparent diamond builds a clean spin-free environment, whereas the spin of impuriIties such as the Nitrogen-Vacancy could be maintained so as scientists are able to detect the spin-turbulence from the environment, for a series of basic detections, such as magnetic field, electric field, temperature etc. This paper is a demonstration of using the Excited- state lifetime of the NV center for the spin state readout and its application on magnetometry.

Why is it important?
comparing to photoluminescence-intensity based spin-readout method, the demonstrated method provides a way to avoid certain type of noises, thus improve the long-term sensitivity.
