What is it about?

Proposed here is a method for constructing systems of circular thin Helmholtz coils (conic coils), which makes it possible to obtain a magnetic field with any degree of inhomogeneity by doubling the number of coils.

Why is it important?

For testing and calibrating measuring instruments, magnetic resonance imaging, plasma physics, navigating a permanent magnet microrobot, and bioelectromagnetic experiments, it is often required to generate both constant and variable magnetic fields with high homogeneity.

Perspectives

The advantages of proposed method are that (i) the method is applicable to coils of any shape, (ii) it can be easily generalized to systems of coils of finite length (single-layer solenoids and permanent magnets with axes of symmetry described by the solenoid model), and (iii) the method can be easily generalized to systems of coils with both finite length and thickness (multilayer solenoids)
