What is it about?
This paper reviews the recent progress (until mid-2019) in THz integrated circuits on CMOS and BiCMOS processes to show the capability of these technologies to bridge the THz gap. It discusses how the innovative circuit architectures by manipulating the EM wave propagation and nonlinear methods can overcome the limitations of transistor technologies at THz frequencies. The exploitation of the terahertz range represents perhaps the most significant challenge in the history of RF technology and arguably represents the greatest opportunity.

Why is it important?
This paper provides a comprehensive description of nonlinear processes, nonlinear analysis techniques, and linear and nonlinear EM wave propagation in the THz electronic circuits. Then, it presents many practical circuits that use these techniques to implement the key building blocks of THz systems like amplifiers, oscillators, mixers, and frequency multipliers. In the end, it pictorially demonstrates the progress of THz electronics until mid-2019 and the shrinkage of the THz gap.
