What is it about?

The leading-edge vortex is one of the important reasons for maintaining the high lift of the flapping wing. We quantitatively study the stability of the leading-edge vortex by three-dimensional visualization, vortex circulation and vortex dynamics, respectively. The influence of different reduced frequencies on the stability of leading-edge vortex is studied.

Why is it important?

we reinterpret the concept of the stability of the leading-edge vortex. Based on the variation of the front-edge vortex structure and vortex circulation, we found that the reduced frequency can significantly enhance the structural stability and attachment stability of the leading-edge vortex. In addition, the results of the vortex dynamics equation confirm the above views.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. The effect of reduced frequency on the stability of the leading edge-vortex is explained in a completely new perspective.
