What is it about?

The CBM was used for the characterization of magnetic materials. We have demonstrated in this paper that it can be used for the characterization of ferroelectric materials also. The upgradation of the existing CBM for this additional feature is described details in this paper.

Why is it important?

The characterization of magnetic materials is done mainly using VSM, SQUID and MOKE. The cantilever beam magnetometer (CBM) is another instrument for magnetic characterization with additional features. 1. The CBM can measure magnetostriction unlike VSM, SQUID and MOKE. 2. In this paper, we have added another feature that the CBM can be used for measuring piezoelectricity and electrostriction of ferroelectric materials. Also we have demonstrated how one can manipulate magnetization using the electric field in ferromagnet/ferroelectrics heterostructures.
