What is it about?

This is a Cr:forsterite laser emitting at 1262 nm and tunable around this wavelength, which is amplified using four crystals and two passes in each one. This enables to increase the output energy till 24 mJ.

Why is it important?

This system was designed for having high energy near 1262 nm because in this region the laser sources with high energy are scarce. But the most important feature is the single mode generation, 18 ns pulses with low jitter and narrow linewidth of the order of 170 MHz

Perspectives

This system enables to excite any material which absorbs in the Near-IR region around 1262 nm. The most important feature here is that the tunning is fine and each wavelength has very narrow linewidth thus allowing to excite hyperfine transitions. The main application will be Hyperfine spectroscopy.
